COLIN Hill and Lee Power can achieve what others have failed to do before them and make Weymouth Football Club a sustainable success according to striker Lee Phillips.

The 28-year-old, who returned for a second spell at the Terras earlier this month from Rushden & Diamonds, has worked under both men and is adamant their potential investment could be the turning point in the Blue Square Premier outfit’s turbulent history.

Speaking yesterday just minutes after being told, along with the rest of the squad, that they were not going to get paid this week, Phillips said: “Chief executive Gary Calder and manager Alan Lewer have been blatantly honest with us which is good.

“Obviously we are a bit annoyed that we are not getting paid this week but the news about Lee Power and Colin Hill putting money in is just what the club needs and that will no doubt give the boys a big lift.

“In the last three matches we have easily performed like a top four side and hopefully with the new owners coming in that will provide another boost in terms of keeping hold of Anton Robinson and Stuart Beavon, and maybe adding two or three more to the squad.

“It is also great that the lads now know that Alan and Marcus are in full control which gives us more security.”

Phillips netted his first goal since re-signing for the club on Saturday in a 3-0 win over Northwich Victoria at the Wessex Stadium and he believes this latest revelation about the club’s future is just reward for the Terras’ loyal fans.

He added: “This is a fantastic club but ever since I first signed there has always been something going wrong every season with different people coming in all the time.

“But I have worked with both Lee Power and Colin Hill at Rushden and they know what is needed to be done to stabilise a club and move it forward. They know what it takes and what we need, and for the fans it is fantastic because they deserve this massive step forward.”
