WEYMOUTH manager Alan Lewer has revealed that he was struggling for players ahead of last night’s postponed game against York City.

The Blue Square Premier clash was called off after overnight snow had saturated the Wessex Stadium pitch and it appears that could have been a blessing in disguise for the Terras, who must now turn their focus to Sunday’s trip to Crawley Town.

Lewer said: “The pitch was like a lake so there was no other option but to call it off. We were struggling a bit for players and I am still talking to people trying to get ones in but it could well be worse on Sunday because Cameron Mawer is suspended.

“All I could tell the lads yesterday was to turn back and that I would see them on Sunday. You see, we cannot train and because of that if I do get offered players the only time I can see them is if I throw them in during games, which is far from ideal, but there is little else we can do.”

One piece of positive news for Lewer is that he has managed to acquire the services of Swindon Town youngster Jake Hyde.

The striker netted once in six appearances for the Terras during a loan spell last season and he will go straight into the team for Sunday.

Lewer added: “Jake did well while he was here last season and he will be a big help. I think Sam Cutler may play as well but we will have to wait and see.”

n Weymouth Supporters’ Travel Club is running a coach to the game at Crawley.

The coach will leave the Wessex Stadium at 10am and the cost will be £20.
