WEYMOUTH chairman Ian Ridley wants the club to return to its ‘core values’ and learn from the lessons of the past.
Speaking at a fans’ forum at the Wessex Stadium last night, where he was joined by boss Matty Hale and his assistant Ian Hutchinson, the newspaper columnist said: “I want the club to return to its core values with young players and the right personnel and that is why I have brought in the likes of Matty and Ian.
“There are people out there that do not want us to succeed and some sponsors and supporters are cautious, and perhaps understandably so, but we will turn this club around.”
Ridley also revealed the following:
* The club is hopeful of having a main shirt sponsor in place by start of the season.
* New claret and blue striped kit unveiled.
* The Gold Club will be relaunched in the Autumn.
* Delay in issuing share certificates down to ‘adminstrative backlog’.
* 70 per cent of the shares are still left in the club and are controlled by Ian Winsor on behalf of the board through Make It So Ltd.
* Winsor does not own the football club.
* Next season’s playing budget will be one of the eight lowest in Blue Square South.
* The club would no longer be trading had Winsor not brokered a ‘fantastic’ four-year deal with the Inland Revenue.
* The FA investigation into illegal betting patterns and financial irregularities is still ongoing.
* Ex-boss Alan Lewer’s departure is currently the subject of legal action between the two parties.
* Marcus Browning was interviewed for the managerial post at the Terras and is currently in talks with the board regarding a financial settlement.
* Weymouth have currently nine players signed on for next season and the club are currently holding talks with two ex-Terras about a possible return.
* Talks are ongoing with creditors although the situation is ‘much better’ than it was a few weeks ago.
* Ex-chairman Malcolm Curtis still wants to deliver a new stadium.
* Around 240 season tickets have been sold so far.
