CHICKERELL United manager Brendan King has called on his charges to take their chance and cement a spot in his starting line-up for Saturday’s Dorset Premier League opener.

The Chickens host Upwey & Broadwey tonight (6.30pm) for the second time in four days as they bring the curtain down on their pre-season programme.

And with the opening day of the new season fast approaching, this evening’s friendly will be the last chance to stake a claim for a starting berth.

King, whose side won 4-1 in Saturday’s first meeting between the two teams, said: “It’s our last friendly so it’s the last chance for players to impress ahead of the first league game on Saturday.

“I’d seen a lot of the players play before I arrived at the club but I have been impressed in pre-season so far and there are some talented lads at the club.

“But there are a few spots up for grabs ahead of Saturday. We know the nucleus of the side but the players have some game time tonight in which to throw their hat in the ring for Saturday.

“Upwey & Broadwey are only one league below us and having already played them on Saturday we know they will be strong.”

On the injury front, King added: “We haven’t picked up any injuries from last Saturday’s game but Liam Beads is still struggling with an Achilles injury so he’ll miss tonight.”
