TREVOR Senior has warned that Bridport’s good work against Hengrove Athletic “will count for nothing” if they don’t follow it up against Minehead tonight (7.45pm).

The Bees secured a commendable point by virtue of a goalless draw in their season opener on Saturday and return to St Mary’s Field for their first home fixture.

Boss Senior was impressed by an assured defensive display, which featured keeper Lee Cleal’s first-half penalty save, and by the movement of strike pair Lewis Cocker and Matt Condliffe.

However, he knows his troops must build on their positive start tonight against the outfit that finished rock bottom in Toolstation Western League Division One last term.

Senior said: “I was very pleased with the performance on Saturday, the lads did everything I asked for. But it will count for nothing if we don’t turn up this time.

“Minehead will probably come here to sit back and they will look to make life as difficult for us as they can, so we will have to be patient.

“Our next two games are very important, firstly against Minehead in the league and then against Keynsham Town in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“Minehead lost 1-0 to Keynsham in their first match so once we’ve seen them we’ll have a good indication of where Keynsham are at as well.”

Senior is sweating on the fitness of midfield schemer Matt Moors, who was taken off in the second half against Hengrove after injuring his jaw.

Defender Jamie Fry, who strained his groin in the friendly defeat by Portland United a fortnight ago, is still sidelined, while Cleal should retain his place in goal.
