STEVE Devlin is disappointed that he will miss Dorchester Town’s Dorset Senior Cup second round tie at Verwood Town tomorrow night (7.45pm).

The Magpies’ latest permanent signing has played the full 90 minutes in Blue Square South games against Maidenhead United and Dover Athletic since joining from Holt United.

However, he will be forced to sit out tomorrow’s Senior Cup tie having played for Holt in their 4-1 opening round defeat of Cranborne.

“I’m very disappointed but I knew when I first came in that would be the case because I played for Holt in the Dorset Senior Cup,” said the 24 year old. “I’m bound to be disappointed but just looking forward to the next game and getting a good result.”

He added: “It’s good to be part of the team because they are a good bunch of lads and wherever the gaffer wants me to play I’ll play there.

“I like to play on the left but just being part of the starting 11 is good for me because I took the step up and I’m looking forward to playing again with the lads.

“We have a good bunch of lads and no matter what team we put out we have to put a shift in every week.”

The battling midfielder was upset with the Magpies’ display in losing 3-1 to Dover Athletic at the Jewson Stadium on Saturday that left Town struggling in 19th.

“Of course we are better than that position,” said Devlin. “On Tuesday night we got in Maidenhead’s faces, miss out worked for each other and I just think a bit of that was missing Saturday.

“Once we conceded the penalty our heads went down and in this league you can’t afford to do that.

“You can tell it’s two different leagues – it’s much more physical than the Dorset Premier League, which is a good league.

“I was only going to be at Holt for this season but obviously I came to Dorchester pre-season and trained, but work commitments meant I had to give it a miss.

“Now I’ve sorted that out I’m able to join.”
