WEYMOUTH ended two and a half months without victory by defeating Poole Town in the Dorset Senior Cup last night as the future of the club moved a day closer to being resolved.

Director Paul Cocks expects Weymouth’s future to be resolved by the middle of next week, with the Weymouth-linked consortium still interested in buying the club after administration.

And the good news off the pitch of the past few days was matched by good news on it as the Terras beat Poole Town in the second round tie.

“I’m absolutely chuffed to bits with the players,” said Weymouth manager Ian Hutchinson. “First and foremost, it’s a victory, and secondly, I was pleased with the way we went about it.

“In the second half we totally dominated and should have had five or six, but the most pleasing thing was that the shape of the team is coming together and how I want them to play.

“The second goal is what I want more of because we played good football, got it out wide, good ball in from Jordan Vincent and it’s in the back of the net. That’s how simple it can be.”

Vincent was one of four players to make a rare start, along with Matt Groves, Nathan Loader and Martin Slocombe.

Commenting on those stepping in, Hutchinson said: “Jordan Vincent came in at right-back. He’s another young lad and he’s done well.

“Matt Groves was given a chance wide right and that’s what the lad can do, and I’ve just told him in the dressing room that’s what good players do week in week out if they want to be around with the first team.”

Weymouth will work extra hard in training on Thursday and will have a practice match next Tuesday in a bid to make up for there being no game on Saturday.
