WEYMOUTH Sports could begin to turn around a season of frustration when they welcome Okeford United to Weymouth College in the Dorset Senior League tomorrow (2pm).

The seasiders have played just eight times in the division this season but will move within four points of the top four if they see off 10th-placed Okeford.

With Witchampton United and Tintinhull, who currently lie second and third respectively, set to face one another and fourth-placed Upwey & Broadwey in Dorset Senior Trophy action Sports could really make up some ground at the weekend.

“I’ve not looked at the league for a few weeks,” said manager Steve Alcock. “I’ve told the lads just to concentrate game to game, get to the end of the season and see what tally we can post.

“If we can upset a few apple carts along the way then all will be well and good but we have to treat every single team in this league with respect.”

Jason Thoday could miss the rest of the season through work commitments but Andy Laidlow is in line for a return.

* Easton United could feature four new signings in their squad tomorrow when they travel to struggling Kangaroos (2pm) for their first Dorset Senior League match since December 19.

Although they have not played in so long, United have managed to hold on to their lead because their top-of-the-table rivals have suffered similar frustrations.

But with powerful striker Shane Sheridan unavailable and Grant Chance (ill) and Martin Rutland (foot injury) doubtful, it could be a chance for Dale Hayes, Anas Boumlaki, Dean Lee and Sam Akoknia to make early impressions on manager Chris Wilson.

“With those lads possibly out it’s a good opportunity for other people, but we’ll wait and see if they recover in time,” said Wilson. “Hopefully Grant will recover from his illness but we also have Chris Squibb to come in so it’s looking good squad-wise.

“You have to prepare to play until you are told otherwise and that’s what we have been doing but I can feel the frustration creeping in as the weeks go by.”

* Steve Reynolds hopes the Dorset FA will consider taking action to make life easier on all teams in the weather-hit Dorset Senior League.

The Upwey & Broadwey boss has been trying with no luck to get their Dorset Senior Trophy replay with Chickerell United Reserves played for over a month and that has had a knock-on effect on their league campaign.

With all but one of the sides in the Dorset Senior League yet to reach the halfway stage, Reynolds hopes action will be taken by those in charge of the fixtures over the coming weeks.

“I was reading what Chickerell’s first-team manager, Brendon King, was saying about extending the season and that doesn’t only apply to Dorset Premier League sides,” said Reynolds.

“We’ve only played 10 league games so I hope that the Dorset FA look at things and save the local games up for those that have to be played midweek.

“It would be impossible for us to get a decent side to North Dorset for a 6.15pm kick off in midweek so that could determine league positions rather than who has the best squad.”

A full-strength Upwey squad will make their latest bid to play their Dorset Senior Trophy quarter-final replay against Chickerell United Reserves at Redlands tomorrow (1.15pm).
