DAVE Kiteley has warned his players not to “overcompensate” if tomorrow’s fixture away to Blandford United (2pm) is given the go-ahead.

Recent poor weather has restricted Weymouth Reserves to a single league game since their 6-0 hammering of lowly Sturminster Newton United on October 31.

Hopes are high that the Recreation Ground will be fit and that the Terras will be able to revive their Dorset Premier League title aspirations.

But boss Kiteley is wary of his players’ rustiness following such an extended period without a competitive match, and has urged them to guard against over-excitement.

Speaking to the Echo, he said: “The lads are very keen to play and because they’ve been out of action for so long, they’ll be desperate for time on the ball.

“But I don’t want them to overcompensate for the time that they haven’t been on the pitch. I’ll stress this to the lads and hopefully it won’t be a factor.

“They should want the ball, but it’s important that they don’t spend too long on it. With the pitch probably not being in the best condition, the ball needs to go forward quickly.

“It’s tough to know what to expect but there are bound to be some problems. The lads have trained really hard but are going to be rusty.

“They are all very talented but need to match their opponents’ work ethic. If they can do that then they should fare well, because they are more than a match for anybody ability-wise.”

Shane Evans is eligible to make his debut, as is Jamie Sibley, who has been forced to remain patient since switching from Chickerell United a month ago.

The Terras outgunned Bland-ford in the reverse fixture last August, running out 3-1 winners at the Wessex Stadium thanks to goals by Jamie Frampton, Tyler Sibbick and Ben Reiffer.
