WEYMOUTH will take to the pitch at the Wessex Stadium today sporting a new kit after agreeing an 18-month sponsorship deal with Weyline.

The taxi firm, who earlier this week stepped in to save the Weymouth Wildcats speedway team, will see the company’s logo emblazoned on the front of the Terras’ shirts until the end of next season.

It is the first time this season that the Terras will have had shirt sponsors, making a change to their “invest in us” slogan from recent months.

“It’s great news that a local firm have got behind the football club,” said Weymouth chairman George Rolls. “It’s very good and I’d like to thank Ian Ferguson of Weyline. He has become an integral part of the football club.”

The first chance supporters will get to see the new kit is when Chelmsford City visit the Wessex Stadium today (3pm) for the Terras’ first Blue Square South clash since their 2-0 victory over Dorchester Town on New Year’s Day.

“Weymouth would be poorer place without its speedway and the football club,” said Ian Ferguson, co-owner and managing director if Weyline. “It doesn’t take a lot for a few people to put a few quid in.

“I would rather give my money to the people of Weymouth and Portland than the taxman.

“I’m a grockel but I love the place and want to put my money where my mouth is.

“We look on these sponsorships as opportunities – it’s a great town and has got friendly people – and I want to be a pro-active local business.”
