CHICKERELL United can tonight move one step closer to making history when they visit in-form Westland Sports (6.30pm).

The Chickens are locked in a two-way battle for the Dorset Premier League title, standing two points behind leaders Hamworthy Rec but having played two games fewer.

With eight fixtures still to play in less than four weeks, boss Brendon King is urging his players to keep their focus.

He said: “We’ll give it a good shot tonight and hopefully we will be rewarded at the end of the season.

“We can make history this season as the club has never won the league and we’ve been trying to bang that message into the players.

“We’ve got a good squad and I just hope we can keep the run going and not pick up too many injuries.”

Prevising tonight’s encounter against a Westland side unbeaten in 11 matches, King added: “It’s going be a hard game as they are a decent side. They beat us earlier in the season and I would say they caused us more problems than any other side in the league.

“There’s a little bit of pay back to gain but it’s a hard place to go and they are a strong, experienced side.

“We’ve had some good results and performances of late so we go there full of confidence, but we’re under no illusions.”

Adam Linaker (knee) is set to miss out once again while fellow striker Warren White hopes to shake off a rib injury.

Andy Graham is unavailable but 15-year-old defender Ryan Hanger returns to the squad after recovering from a hernia operation.

One major concern this evening though surrounds skipper Dan Welch.

King said: “Dan might have work commitments and is going to do his best to get there. It’s not ideal in terms of preparations but that’s what happens at this level.”
