TREVOR Senior has told his Bridport players that they must maintain their performance levels from Saturday in all their remaining matches, starting against second-bottom Roman Glass St George at St Mary’s Field tonight (7.45pm).
The Bees are gunning for a spot in the top 10 of Toolstation Western League Division One and are currently four points behind Cadbury Heath with four games remaining compared with Cadbury’s one.
And despite injury problems, Senior believes his charges can match their display from Saturday’s cup semi-final penalty shoot-out defeat to Premier Division high-flyers Bishop Sutton.
“We’ve had a few games against higher opposition and more than matched those teams,” said Senior. “We have to take heart from that and take it into the league with a final push over the last four games. The mind plays a big part in a lot of football matches.
“You can take lesser teams lightly and come unstuck while you can also raise your game when you know you are going to be up against it – a lot is mental attitude and how you approach the game.
“The better players are the ones who do it more often than not against whatever opposition.
“We had players giving performances on Saturday they give every week, which was pleasing because as a team we performed really well and we have to do it again tonight.
“Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, we’ve had a good season but it would be nice to finish it off with ninth or 10th place.”
However, the Bees will have to see off tonight’s visitors without at least six regulars, meaning James Maidment, Ben Clarke and Martin Bulman could all be called up for the clash.
The season is at an end for Chris Clarke (navy training) and Darren Watts (ankle) while Chris Senior (groin) and top scorer Sam Charles (suspended) will miss tonight’s match, as well as Thursday’s home clash with Westbury United.
Ash Clarke and Matt Condliffe (both ankle) are also missing.
Bees: Fry, A Symes, Lock, Hill, Hayter, J Symes, Wise, Cummings, G Bulman, C Bulman, Jones, Maidment, B Clarke, M Bulman.
