TWO more hopefuls are set to try their hand at winning contracts with Dorchester Town this summer.

AFC Totton defender Peter Castle and Bashley wide man Charlie Knight are expected to join goalkeeper Mike Hookway in the Magpies’ pre-season preparations.

And casting judgement over the trialists will be county town boss Ashley Vickers.

The 37-year-old has made two signings since the end of the last campaign – Jamie Frampton and Dave Allen – and although he has former Weymouth striker Stuart Douglas on his radar, Vickers is keen to save his remaining funds in the hope of unearthing some pre-season bargains.

He said: “I do need to speak to Stuart but we are holding fire at the moment as I want to keep some of our budget for pre-season, in the hope of someone coming to the fore.

“Peter Castle will hopefully join us in pre-season as will Charlie Knight. Peter is a defender while Charlie can play on either wing – I want to have a closer look at them.”

Ex-Reading centre-half Castle joined Totton in late January following a productive spell with Bashley, in which he made 131 appearances for the New Forest outfit.

Knight, 22, meanwhile has played in the same Bashley team as current Magpie strikers Ryan Moss and Dave Allen.

The Magpies return to training on July 3 before hosting Crawley Town (July 16) and Dagenham & Redbridge (July 17) in back-to-back friendlies.
