Dorchester Town hope to unveil their first signing of the close season tomorrow.

Monday’s Echosport revealed that boss Ashley Vickers was closing in on two transfer targets.

One of those men, a young forward, is expected to put pen to paper at the weekend while the other, a box-to-box midfielder, has agreed in principle to join the county town ranks.

Vickers though refuses to reveal the duo’s identity until both moves are in the bag.

The 39-year-old, remaining tight-lipped, said: “One lad should be coming down on Saturday to sign. The other lad has agreed to join but nothing has been signed yet, although we are trying to get a contract sorted out.

“If we get both players it will add great competition to the squad. I can’t really say much more than that at the moment.”

The season may be over but Vickers, besides his pursuit for new faces, is very much hard at work – training for next week’s charity trek from the Avenue Stadium to Land’s End.

The Magpies’ chief will cycle and run the near 200-mile journey, hoping to raise as much money for Marie Cure Cancer Care in the process.

He also aims to honour the memory of his late mum Kathleen.

The Avenue Stadium encounter will take place on Saturday, July 30.

The golfing event, a four-team stableford, costs £325 per team with the price including a bacon bap and tea or coffee on arrival, the evening meal with Hartson and Case, and a memorabilia auction.

Prizes will also be on offer for longest drive, nearest the pin and longest walk.
