NETBALL coach June Reed was honoured at the annual South West Regional Awards.

Reed, who coaches and volunteers at Weymouth Junior Netball Club, scooped the Grassroots Coach Award at Taunton Vale Sports Centre.

The seaside outfit currently has 38 members, from school Years Three to 10, which is testament to Reed’s dedication and commitment.

She will now represent the South West as the region’s nominee in the national Grassroots Coach Award at a ceremony in Leicester on September 17.

Weymouth’s Kelly Browne was also nominated in the Rose Award but lost out to Katrina Veneer of North Devon.

Browne is chair of the South & West Dorset League, senior development officer, a Level Two coach and B Award umpire.

Another Dorset nominee was Blandford’s Leanne Peaty, who was narrowly pipped to the Young Volunteer Award by Morgan New from Bideford.

Peaty has been helping coach teams at school after attending the Young Netball Organiser Course.

She has since gone on to achieve her Level One Coaching Award and her C Award Umpiring qualification.

The 18-year-old is an active member of the Doodlebugs Netball Club, umpiring at the local league as well as juggling her A Level studies.
