SOME 270 dedicated golfers took part in Ashley Wood’s annual captain’s weekend.

In wet and windy conditions, the format was an individual stableford with a bit of a twist.

The captain had holes three, six, 11 and 16 cut with two flag holes, one being more difficult than the other due to a nasty pin position and worth double points for par or better, but nothing for bogey.

This meant that there was a possible eight extra points available.

Despite the shocking weather some very good scores were posted. The overall winner was Brian Harwood with 50 points.

Sunday saw the majority of Saturday’s players plus some new faces turn up for more of the same.

The format was a Texas Scramble with the winners being Malcolm Kennedy, Kully Arwand, Michael Collins and Stuart Ratcliffe.

Runners-up were Kev Barr, Larry Thorne, Elliot Manson, and Dan Barr.

Following all the golf, the prize-giving took place on Sunday afternoon following the indoor barbecue.

The day was deemed a great success, despite the conditions, and a total of £800 was raised for the captain’s charity, The Royal Star & Garter.

The next event is the Ashley Wood Open. For more information contact club manager Mike Batty on 01258 452253.
