FORMER Weymouth director Shaun Hennessy believes personal opinions must be put to one side in order to safeguard the club’s future.

The ardent fan’s company Blondz has become the Terras’ new main shirt sponsor and he is hoping more local businesses will follow suit by offering the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division outfit their support throughout the forthcoming campaign.

Hennessy, whose hair salon is situated in St Edmund Street in the seaside resort, said: “I am delighted that Blondz will be sponsoring WFC, and it is an honour to see the business I have built up over 20 years in Weymouth, being displayed on the front of the home team shirts for the coming season.

“As everyone in this town knows, I am extremely passionate about the club and whilst I do not agree with many of the strategies that have been implemented at the club over the past 18 months, my personal opinions regarding the off-the-field politics have to be put to one side for a moment, because without financial help in the form of sponsorship from local businesses, there will not be a club to support, no matter who owns WFC.”

Hennessy is a staunch supporter of all local sports in the community, having also recently sponsored the Weymouth Town Tennis Tournament.

The 2011 Weymouth Carnival chairman said: “For a few years now with Blondz, I have wanted the salon to put something back into the community and that is why we have been supporting local events and sports.

“We have sponsored the Weymouth Town Tennis Tournament this year, WFC’s home shirts and I want to also get something in place soon with Tim Davis of WeySports, so Blondz can help more with youngsters and under-privileged children in the area.”

Hennessy has not ruled out more sponsorship, depending on the club’s success both on and off the pitch.
