PHIL Simkin praised his fledgling Magpies after they fought back to secure a draw at Hamworthy United last night.
A youthful Dorchester contingent, bolstered by the inclusion of fit-again Ashley Nicholls and fellow midfielder Jamie Symes, fell behind at the County Ground but levelled proceedings through Steven Walker – younger brother of defensive colossus Nathan.
And assistant-manager Simkin, a former boss of the Hammers, was pleased with what he saw.
He said: “We went 1-0 down on a very difficult surface in a very competitive game. But we came back and could have won it.
“We had a very young side out but both Ashley Nicholls and Jamie Symes got 90 minutes.
“It was a good experience for the younger lads and we learnt quite a lot about them. That’s what makes these games worthwhile.
“These games are never easy because for Hamworthy, whatever side we put out is a scalp. Ash showed his class and the younger lads all did well.”
