YOUNGSTERS from Weymouth competed in the annual Dorset Schools Singles tournament at Bryanston School where schools from all around the county took part.
In the Year Four and below section, Rhys Halcrow from Southwell and Chickerell’s Ryan Blair met in the fourth/fifth place play-off with the former coming out on top. Grace Morgan of Radipole finished in fifth position but it was Abbie Tyler, also from Radipole, and Sofia Voss from St Andrew’s who came through their early rounds to meet in the final with the former taking the top spot.
Thomas Powell took the runner-up trophy back to Radipole School in the Year Five and below competition.
He lost out to fellow county player Ben Samuel in a final which produced a very high level of tennis.
In the Year Six and below event, Dom Webb of St John’s cruised through his early rounds and after a long wait took to the court to face his county team-mate Freddie Bridgeman. The latter was warmed up from his last stage match and took the winner’s trophy. Matthew Redding from Radipole also competed and enjoyed some close matches coming out on top in one of them.
