WEYMOUTH Wildcats will return for one night only next Friday night when they take to the track at the St Boniface Arena in Plymouth for the Tony Sanford Memorial Meeting alongside the Devils and fellow defunct clubs Exeter and Trelawny (7.30pm).
The event will follow a 16-heat four-team tournament format with the Wildcats being represented by Jay Herne, Brendan Johnson, Richard Andrews and Karl Mason.
The evening will also witness Tom Brown step out of retirement and line up for Plymouth and Seemond Stephens don the Exeter colours for what could be his final speedway outing.
Sanford tragically died on the Exeter track in 1981 and former Wildcat Matt Bates, who has organised the meeting, is hoping a big crowd will turn out in his honour.
He said: “The support that we have had has been phenomenal to be honest.
“The Exeter thing started out as an idea on my laptop and it has escalated to 300 fans following us around the country for the second half races.
“Hopefully, next year a few more teams can do this and get a few more names back on track.”
