TREVOR Senior believes 40 points will be enough to see his side safe in the Toolstation Western Premier Division this season.

Bridport have so far experienced a rocky return to the top-flight but the club’s determined boss is adamant his team has what it takes to consolidate their status.

Senior, whose third-bottom Bees have lost seven of their last nine league games, said: “The table never lies but if you look at the points column things could go one of two ways.

“I personally believe we have got to aim for 40 points. That is our immediate objective and if we can reach that target it should be enough to stay in the league.

“I said that October would be an important month but at the moment we are no better off than when we started it.

“Having said that though, we have picked up a couple of good wins in the FA Vase and the Dorset Senior Cup, and beaten Ilfracombe Town and Street in the league so there has still been plenty there for us to take encouragement from.

“Next month we have tough away games at Bitton, Bishop Sutton and Merthyr Town but if we could come through that with points it would give us even more confidence.

“First though, we have Brislington at St Mary’s Field tomorrow (3pm) and although they will be another tough side to take on there is no reason why we cannot get a positive result, particularly on our own patch.

“Just like my predecessor Ian Hutchinson would have no doubt said, we could do with one or two more experienced heads in the side to organise and help us keep our shape as we are a little naive at times, but that is just all part of the learning process.

“We are still a young side and it was always going to take time for us to adapt to Premier Division football.”

Adam Symes and Chris Clarke are both unavailable this weekend but Darren Watts should return to the fold.

Senior added: “The other one we are waiting on is Dan Peart.

“He has been struggling with a back injury but we are hopeful he will be okay.

“Jamie Morgan came in on Tuesday and had a decent game so he will remain in the squad while Darren Lock could be given 90 minutes in the reserves.”
