PARLEY SPORTS 4

WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1

THE closing stages of this Magna Dorset Premier League clash at Parley Sports were “pure madness”, according to Jake Richmond.

The Weymouth Reserves joint-boss watched on in disbelief as five goals found the net in the last nine minutes to give the hosts the most flattering of victories.

Richmond told Echosport: “It was mental. If anyone had suggested with 10 minutes to go that the game would end 4-1, I would have looked at them as if they were crazy but that is exactly what happened.

“They created just one chance in the first 60 minutes and for much of the game it was fairly even but then it just went nuts.

“They went two up, we got one back and then they scored two more at the end after we had pushed for an equaliser.

“It was pure madness and I felt absolutely gutted for the lads afterwards because they did not deserve that at all.

“The overall performance was very encouraging and it warranted a point at the very least.”

The Terras were missing six reserve-team regulars as well as their two back-up keepers, Carl Mutch and Chris Wilson, who have both been deputising recently for the suspended Chris Povall.

Mark Cottingham came in and took the gloves in the trio’s absence and made a fine stop on 25 minutes before becoming a mere spectator until the final 10 minutes.

Luke Winsper and Chukki Taylor both went close with efforts for the visitors before Rob Maxted conceded the spot-kick that eventually broke the deadlock.

It was 2-0 shortly afterwards but Weymouth then hit back with Winsper setting up substitute Max Ironside, who showed supreme confidence to round the home keeper and slide the ball into the empty net.

However, that strike only proved to be a consolation as Sports added two more to put extra gloss on the result in the dying minutes.

Richmond added: “Sean Zima, Ashley Staines, Pete Jarvis, Shane Sheridan and Simon Crouch were all missing and Ricky Lane failed a late fitness test, so we were really up against it in many ways and I think that shows just how well the lads did.

“Mark helped us out and Dan Moore and Matt Sturmey came in and made their first appearances, and it was great to see so many of the younger ones get minutes again.

“Max, Charlie Holland, Matt Harvey and Matt Sturmey are all still 16-17 and did very well but our man-of-the-match was Rob Maxted, who was a nine out of 10 despite giving away the penalty.”

Terras: Cottingham, Sharpe, Anstey, Maxted, Holland, Harvey (Scott 75), Skelton, Luke, Taylor (Sturmey 65), Winsper, Moore (Ironside 60).
