MICHAEL Watson was the best placed West Region player after the first round of the Titleist PGA Play-Offs in Turkey.
The Wessex Golf Centre pro carded a level-par 71 to trail Surrey star Richard Wallis by six shots.
However, Watson’s second round of 74 has left him joint 15th going into today’s third and final round.
Walmer & Kingsdown ace Wallis reeled off five birdies in six holes from the eighth during the first round at Antalya Golf Club’s PGA Sultan Course to carve out a two-stroke advantage over in-form Matt Cort (Rothley Park).
Wallis maintained his form on round two to hit 67, leaving him top of the pile on 10 under.
Former play-off winner Paul Streeter (Lincoln Golf Centre) is two shots adrift in second spot while making up the top three is Ireland’s David Higgins (seven under).
With a clutch of European and Challenge Tour spots available for the winner, plus the top 10 qualifying for the BMW PGA Championship, the stakes are high as the 54-hole tournament nears completion.
