STEVE Reynolds has declared his side out of the running for the Dorset Senior League title.

The Upwey & Broadwey boss’ admission comes in the aftermath of a 4-3 loss at local rivals Weymouth Sports.

The former may only be a point adrift of the summit but with the teams around them all holding games in hand, Reynolds has conceded defeat in the race for glory.

He said: “We’ve blown any chance we had of winning the league.

“And if we continue to turn up for only half a game then we don’t deserve to win anything.

“I felt we had to win our eight remaining games and still rely on other results. I don’t think we will win the league now but we might decide who does.”

And the outcome of tomorrow’s home clash with fourth-placed Kingston Lacy (2pm) could go a long way to determining the destiny of this season’s crown.

Reynolds added: “We are the only side to have beaten them this season. We put five past them and I honestly thought they were a poor side, so tomorrow will be interesting.

“We will certainly have to show more character than we did last Saturday. They have got to pull their fingers out and if they don’t, people will get dropped.”

Reynolds is hoping to welcome back Ty Young and Don Wellman for tomorrow’s match.

Last weekend’s derby winners meanwhile face another local encounter as they visit Chick-erell United Reserves (2pm).

Sixth-placed Sports are 12 points better off than the Chick-ens but joint-boss Chris Hicks is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “Chickerell aren’t a bad side and they have a good attitude but hopefully we can go on and put a nice run together now.

“Against the better sides we have done well but against those teams below us we have often let ourselves down, and it’s frustrating.

“We can’t win the league or the Senior Trophy but hopefully we will gain a respectable league position.”

Current leaders Portland United Reserves look to maintain their grip on top spot when they entertain Blandford United Reserves (2pm).
