FOLLOWING the news that he and his assistant Matt Groves have been offered new long-term contracts, Weymouth boss Brendon King is looking forward to a bright future at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

King has been at the Terras’ helm for 255 days thus far – having previously held the roles of reserve-team manager and first-team assistant – and George Rolls is keen to see him reign for years to come.

The former, whose side host Banbury United tomorrow (3pm), said: “We have talked about contracts for a while. I have a good relationship with the board so when it’s ready to sign, it’s ready to sign.

“We had a long-term aim when we set out at the start of the season and people have to remember that things weren’t going to happen overnight.

“We are looking at a three or five-year project and hopefully we will be here to see it through.

“Given the amount of managers, and players, that have come and gone in the last four or five years, stability is one of the main things we spoke about at the start of the season.

“At the moment it’s been a reasonable season and for me personally we are probably ahead of schedule.

“We have had a good run in the FA Trophy and a fair run in the FA Cup, so it has been a positive season so far.

“We would like it to be a lot better but you have to be realistic as well.”

At the forefront of King’s mind is tomorrow’s visit of the 12th-placed Puritans – who the Terras could overtake with victory at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

But having seen his men record an impressive 5-1 win when the two sides last met, the Weymouth chief is wary of a Banbury backlash.

He added: “It’s very tight in and around the middle of the table. A couple of wins can push you right up there but a couple of defeats will see you drop right down.

“Banbury are above us in the table and we had a really good win at their place back in October so they will want a bit of revenge.

“We just want to put things right from Tuesday night’s defeat at Chippen-ham.”

James Coutts limped out of the 3-0 loss with an ankle injury and is a minor doubt for tomorrow’s Evo-Stik Southern Premier clash.

However, King is hopeful that Byron Napper’s loan switch will be completed in time.

He said: “Couttsy might be struggling, we will have to see how he is, but hopefully we will have Byron available.”
