SERITA Shone has taken another stride down the road to recovery by accompanying the Great Britain team to the Bauhaus FIBT Bob and Skeleton World Championships at Lake Placid in the USA.

The Weymouth brakewoman is currently battling back from a spinal fracture she suffered in a training crash in Winterberg in Germany last October and it appears she is progressing well.

Her coach Gary Anderson even posted a picture of her lifting two light weights at Lake Placid’s Olympic Training Centre on social networking site Twitter with the tagline – “This is great to see GBR bobsleigh athlete Serita Shone back in the gym.”

When Echosport contacted Shone’s family for a further update, her mother Julie said: “It is great to see her back with the Great Britain team and she is really happy to be involved again.

“She is over there cheering her fellow team-mates on and also continuing her light training.

“She is swimming, cycling on a static bike and also doing exercises on a specialist piece of equipment that she got from a gym company but obviously she is not lifting weights like she was before. The physio has to rein her back a bit but she has been to see the back specialist and all is going well.

“It is very much a gradual process and although no one knows what the final outcome will be, Serita is very positive and determined to try and get back to where she was.”

The third and fourth runs in the women’s bobsleigh at Lake Placid are scheduled to take place later tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
