COLIN Tizzard is excited at the prospect of Royal Guardsman giving him a second win in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham.

The Dorset trainer struck with Cue Card in 2010 and he looks to have unearthed another big find in Royal Guardsman.

The five-year-old bounced back after a disappointing run at Aintree in October to win what looked a competitive bumper at Ascot in tremendous style.

The Milborne Port handler said: “He disappointed us at Aintree but when he came back he wasn’t well and he’d lost weight. He was lame and behind and he coughed a bit.

“We said then we’d nurse him through it and bring him back for one run before Cheltenham. It couldn’t have gone any better. He’s a strong stayer and he’s a beautiful horse.

“The other jockeys said to young Brendan (Powell) afterwards they thought it rode as good a bumper as there’d been all season.

“If that’s right he deserves to go there. It’s what we’re waiting for and I’m sure he will.”
