NEW Weymouth owner Nigel Biddlecombe will deal with Brendon King and Matt Groves’ contract situation in due course.

Prior to this week’s takeover, the management duo agreed five-year deals under the Rolls regime but Biddlecombe has not yet seen any evidence to confirm whether pen was ever put to paper.

He said: “George Rolls has not provided me with any proof that the contracts have been signed by either person but to be honest I am not duly concerned.

“Both Brendon and Matt have done a terrific job so far this season and deserve everybody’s full backing.

“I have spoken to Brendon and we have both agreed that tomorrow’s game at Swindon Supermarine is the main priority.

“All we are worried about at present is getting a team out and making sure we can pay them.

“Talks will take place though in due course.”

When contacted by Echosport, King immediately confirmed that stance before going on to congratulate Biddlecombe on his takeover.

He said: “The club being in the hands of its supporters is what everyone has wanted for a long time and I just hope they all get behind it now in a big way, but only time will tell.

“Hopefully it will lead to more of them coming through the gate again but obviously what we do on the field is still going to have the biggest bearing on that.

“Building on the progress we have made this year is still the number one aim and that continues to be my main focus.”

Going on to comment about George Rolls’ departure, King added: “From a personal point of view, I had a very good working relationship with George.

“He was the one that gave both Matt and I the opportunity to take the team forward and I think we repaid that faith in a way, although there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“We will both always be grateful for this chance and we aim to continue to try and make the most of it under the new owner.”

Meanwhile, the consortium that is backing Biddlecombe has released a statement detailing its hopes for the future.

The group is understood to include both the Wessex Fantasy Football and the Weymouth FC Supporters Association, along with the likes of Shaun Hennessy, Paul Cocks, Pete Saxby and Ralph Ricardo.

The statement reads: “The consortium, fronted by Nigel Biddlecombe, has taken the baton of ownership but a trust controlled completely by the fans is being formed to take possession of the shareholding on behalf of Weymouth FC, thereby finally removing the one owner spectre that has haunted the last few years.

“The formation of a new board of directors is underway and will be announced as soon as possible. Also, as soon as club accounts can be formalised, we will call an AGM to formalise proceedings.

“Further to this, a fans’ forum, to explain our plans, intentions and arrangements, will be called as soon as a free date can be found.

“Currently the consortium is working to ensure all the problems that bedevilled the club over the last few months, be they financial or organisational, are rectified immediately.

“WFC can now face a bright future. We have a team of fantastic quality, who have shown their commitment to the cause during an often disturbing time off the field, and a management team that have the full backing of everyone concerned with the club.

“The club has been kept running over the last season by a hard working team of volunteers and we would like to publicly thank them for the amazing dedication they have shown. We sincerely hope they will continue to show support.

“The new regime at the club has one aim in mind and that is to create a football club, not only professional and successful on the field of play, but in terms of off-field activities as well.

“Each and every one of us shares your wishes that the town of Weymouth should have a club it can be proud of.”

The consortium is already keen to open dialogue with Weymouth Ladies and all the Weymouth Youth teams in a bid to bring them back to the Bob Lucas Stadium, and is also urging fans to turn out in force at the next home game against Hemel Hempstead on March 10.
