THE top two in the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership will lock horns in this year’s Dorset Sunday Intermediate Cup final.

A Danny Andrews hat-trick saw Weyline beat Tiegla Tiles to book their place in the showpiece while Rodwell overcame league rivals The Alex 2-1.

Weyline controlled their semi-final tie from start to finish with James Aldom going close before Andrews eventually opened the scoring on 32 minutes.

The 22-year-old forward picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable effort that found the top-right corner of the net, giving the visiting stopper no chance, and it was not long before he added his second.

Just eight minutes later, a strike from skipper Adam Schofield was handled on the goal-line, resulting in a red card for the culprit and a spot-kick, which Andrews duly dispatched.

Weyline were now in complete command and after Aldom had been denied by a fine save, they netted a third just two minutes before the break to wrap up the game.

This time Sean Stewart sent over a fine cross and there was Andrews again to head past a beleaguered keeper.

The second half was a non event but that did not concern Weyline as they continue to remain on course for a historic treble.

With a five-point lead at the top of the Premiership and one final place already secured, Weyline will now be looking to make similar headway in the Len Mahoney Cup, which is due to get underway this weekend.

Unfortunately, there was no such luck for Wellworthy in the Dorset Sunday Junior Cup as they crashed out in the penultimate round against Team Gryphon.

Liam Puckett grabbed the Wyke Regis outfit’s consolation in a 2-1 defeat that saw Gareth Pearson and Matthew Plowman register for the winners.

Meanwhile, in Championship action, Moby Dick’s secured a 4-1 success against The Dolphin.

Jason Razzell netted twice for the Moby, whose other goals came from Shane Lock and Grant Ellis.

* The Dorset Intermediate Cup final between Weyline and Rodwell will take place at Redlands on April 29 (10.30am).
