RESERVE-TEAM boss Robbie Taylor has spoken of his delight at seeing a number of his young charges make their senior debuts.

Alex Godfrey, Steven Walker and Sam Buckler have all been handed their first-team bows over the last 16 days while the likes of Dan Floyd, Antony Carlile, Danny Way and Adam Taylor have previously appeared on the substitutes’ bench.

And Taylor believes it is a clear indication that the county town structure, which was put in place last summer, is beginning to bear fruit.

He said: “Alex got on at the weekend and Sam came on at Woking, and it shows that people are getting chances to progress.

“Alex was chuffed and he text me on the coach journey back from Boreham Wood saying he got 15 minutes and was really pleased.

“We also had Steven Walker on the bench on Tuesday and a couple of others may also have gone but work commitments meant they couldn’t travel. It’s great to see and it makes it all worthwhile.

“This was the whole point of the reserve team – bringing players on.

“The Wyvern League was started up in order to give first-team players games when they haven’t been playing, and to bring the younger lads on.

“We have had a good squad that hasn’t changed much from pre-season and they have improved immensely over the last few weeks.

“They have really taken things on board and hopefully they can keep it going.”
