Dorchester TOWN RESERVES 4

NEWPORT IOW RESERVES 1

DORCHESTER Town Reserves moved to third in the table after recording their third win on the spin in the Wyvern Premier League.

A George Kimber double sandwiched efforts from Antony Carlile and Alex Godfrey as the Magpies ran out comfortable winners against Newport, Isle of Wight.

The Avenue Stadium triumph means Robbie Taylor’s men are now five points behind second-placed Eastleigh, with two games to spare.

The county town chief said: “The atmosphere before the game was good, we’ve got a bit of confidence now and it is starting to show.

“I couldn’t fault the lads again as it was a pleasure to watch at times.

“It was a good performance all-round but Alex Godfrey in particular was exceptional.

“The only thing we probably need to work on is our finishing as we created so many clear-cut opportunities and against a better side we may have been punished.

“But generally it was a good display and it bodes well for the future of the club.

“These lads are asking questions and they will get opportunities in the first-team squad, it’s up to them to stake their claim.”

Further reflecting on the 4-1 win, Taylor added: “We started well and George Kimber was causing them problems from the start.

“He had a couple of chances before he got his first goal and once we scored our confidence levels rose and we were 2-0 up at half-time.

“We came out for the second half and scored again within three minutes to make it 3-0.

“We almost got a bit too over-confident with our play midway through the half and we got a bit sloppy, which came down to age and experience.

“They scored to make it 3-1 but we went on to get a fourth and kill the game off.”

The Magpies’ next fixture is not for another 11 days but when they do resume action, Dorchester face a gruelling schedule of four games in less than a week.

Taylor said: “We’ve got a bit of a break now as our next game isn’t until Tuesday, March 27 so we will get back in training and work on a few bits and bobs.”
