WEYMOUTH boss Brendon King has delved into the loan market and signed Yeovil Town defender Rhys Baggridge.

The 19-year-old, who has spent the last three months at Poole Town where he netted four goals in 15 outings, comes in as defensive cover for Ben Gerring and Sam Poole following their clash of heads at Brackley Town last Saturday.

King told Echosport: “We are just waiting for the paperwork to go through.

“It is a month’s loan and we are looking forward to working with him (Rhys) after having received such good reports from Tommy Killick at Poole Town, who told me last week if we get a chance to take him then do it.

“Poole did not want to lose him but his three months was up.

“At that time, I didn’t really need anyone but with what happened to Ben and Sam at the weekend things have changed.”

Baggridge signed a one-year professional contract at the Glovers last April at the same time as Lewis Clarke, who is currently enjoying his second loan spell at the Terras.

Both men were among the first graduates to come through the Npower League One club’s centre of excellence.

King added: “Darren Way also spoke to me last week and asked if there was any way I could take Rhys.

“Darren is on the coaching staff up at Yeovil and he told me they want the lad to kick on now to the next level.

“There is no doubt this deal has come at the right time and I have been told he has a fantastic attitude too, so he should have no problem slotting in for us ahead of some big games coming up.”

When asked for an update on Gerring and Poole, King went on to say: “Initially, we thought Sam might be okay but he has had to go back to hospital after suffering with migraines over the weekend.

“I have also spoken to Ben and he is due to have his stitches out next Saturday but having said that he has been advised to have two to three weeks’ rest as a precaution before returning.

“Ben is keen to get back before that but with a nasty cut like that it would be easy to open it up again, so we will just have to see how it is and take it from there.”

The Terras, who currently sit just five points above the drop-zone in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, travel to Bedford Town on Saturday before making the 420-mile round trip to Barwell next Tuesday.
