BRENDON King is a step closer to making his first capture of the close season after offering terms to an unnamed midfielder.
The Weymouth boss, who agreed a new one-year deal earlier this month, did not wish to identify the player in question but described him as a true leader and one of his “top targets”.
An approach has been made for the mystery man and the Terras are now awaiting his response.
King told Echosport: “We have offered terms to a midfielder so we are just waiting for him to let us know. He is having a think about it, he is out of contract with the club he is at but he’s been there for a few years and he wants to do things right.
“He has been around this level for a while and even played higher. He is a leader as well so he is just the type of player we want. He was one of the top targets we identified, we’ve had a good chat with him and we’ll just wait and see.
“He is mulling it over but it’s something that excites him.”
Currently, Weymouth’s first pre-season friendly is at Portland United on July 21.
A week later they play host to Npower Championship outfit Bristol City.
