BRIDPORT have lost out in the race for ex-Weymouth man Alex Halloran.

Despite appearing for the Bees in last week’s friendly defeat to Portland United, the former Blues’ midfielder has instead opted to join Wessex Premier League outfit Hamworthy United.

And boss Trevor Senior, whose side entertain Bournemouth Poppies tomorrow (3pm), is understandably disappointed to miss out on one of his primary targets.

He said: “I received a message from Alex saying that he had decided to join Hamworthy.

“It’s disappointing as we could have done with signing him. We’re also looking to sign Simon Baines and he will be a big player for us if he joins. But he is also looking at Poole Town as well.

“Dan Peart was looking to leave and go elsewhere but I managed to get him to play against Westland so I’m hoping he will decide to stay.”

The Bees, who were due to host a Plymouth Argyle XI last night, were held to a 2-2 draw at Dorset Senior League outfit Westland Sports earlier this week.

Discussing the Alvington stalemate, Senior added: “I wasn’t very pleased with how we played in the first half but the second half was better.

“Bearing in mind the level of opposition we were playing against, I expected us to do better.

“We went 1-0 down in the first half and had a couple of chances to equalise, while they also hit the crossbar.

“But five minutes after half-time it was 2-1. A Dan Wise cross was turned into his own net by one of their players and then another cross was turned in by Jamie Filkins with a good right-foot volley.

“We had plenty of other chances to increase the lead but we didn’t take them and then 10 minutes from time they levelled the scores.”
