Dorchester will be aiming to blow the Dorset Premier League title race wide open tomorrow – even if they are not in the running themselves.

The county town outfit welcome table-topping Wimborne & Colehill to the Rec tomorrow afternoon (1.30pm) hoping to avoid a third successive defeat.

And while victory for the hosts would enhance their chances of a top-half finish, the likes of Parley and Broadstone would also receive a huge boost in their bid to overhaul the leaders.

Dorchester captain Martyn Richards, whose side fell to a 60-run loss when the two sides met in May, said: “Before this season they had only beaten us once since 2008.

“We have given them a few hidings in the past so I think they felt they owed us one when we last played them.

“The game at the Leaze was rather one-sided, with them winning the toss and putting a good score on the board (246-5), which we couldn’t get close to.

“We feel we didn’t do ourselves justice at their place so we go into tomorrow’s game positive, despite losing our last two games.

“If we can get off to a good start, hopefully we will be able to dominate them like we have done in the past and upset the form guide for this season.

“Weymouth went close to beating them so we’ll be hoping to inflict their second defeat of the season, which would really open it up at the top of the table.”

The skipper, whose men currently lie seventh in the top-flight standings, added: “Wimborne have gained a couple of players this year and it is nice to see a different side doing well at the top.

“But we need the win ourselves. There are six games left and we need to win three or four of those to make sure we finish in the top half.

“We have got Wimborne, Poole, Parley and Weymouth all at home between now and the end of the season so if we can turn the Rec into a fortress we will have a good chance of winning the majority of our remaining games.

“We feel we are good enough to get into the top half, we’ve just not played to our potential at times.”

Tomorrow’s hosts make three changes to the side that suffered a 104-run reversal at Ferndown Wayfarers last weekend.

James Dunham, Steve Gerety and Ian Sibley return to the fold with Rob Waite and James Lewis unavailable and teenager Caspar Bailey also making way.

Dorchester: Belt, Caldwell, Dunham, Evans, Fitzgerald, Gerety, Goodhew, Legg, Moxom, Richards, Sibley.
