COMPTON HOUSE 217-6 (17pts) beat PORTLAND RT 216-5 (8pts) by four wickets
PORTLAND Red Triangle went down to old adversaries Compton House by four wickets in County Division One.

Victory handed House their first win of the season and inflicted Portland’s sixth loss in nine games.

Portland lost the toss and were put in but managed to score a respectable 216-5.

Matt Randell (55) continued his excellent form with the bat and was assisted by solid knocks from Dave Adkins (33), Chris Theakstone (25) and Callan Laws (20).

But Compton House got over the line with three overs to spare, despite 3-30 from Randell.

Giles Reynolds (69) and Adam Chick (50) both scored half-centuries before Dan Biddiscombe (20no) and Alfie Reynolds (18no) saw the hosts over the line.

Speaking to Echosport, Randell said: “They were a good side. I was quite surprised they’ve lost as many games as they have.

“I’d say we could’ve opened them up a bit more bowling wise and got into them earlier.

“That would’ve been the difference.

“We batted quite well and built some nice partnerships but were probably 20 runs short.

“Bowling-wise we probably didn’t string enough balls together in the right areas for long enough periods of time.”
