DORSET 172 trail WILTSHIRE 194-9d & 108-6 by 130 runs

DORSET dug deep to give themselves a chance of victory during the second day of their clash with Wiltshire at Wimborne.

Their NCCA Championship Western Division One game is poised nicely, with a deficit of 130 runs and just four Wiltshire wickets left to take.

Earlier in the day, Dorset had resumed on 6-0 and built promisingly to 56-0 as James Trodd (four off 63 balls) proved obdurate in support of Josh Digby (39).

However, Trodd perished to Joseph King (4-50), sparking a loss of all 10 wickets for just 116 runs.

Through it all, Soames cracked seven fours at the Leaze to bring up his half-century as Tahir Afridi (3-42) ripped through the top order.

King took another three wickets and only Alex Eckland (21) and Ed Ellis (11) could join Soames and Digby in double figures as Wiltshire bowled their hosts out for 172.

Leading by 22 runs, Wiltshire accumulated steadily, Uzair Qureshi (32) scoring comfortably.

Wiltshire did lose regular wickets around him in their reply before Simon Woodruff (3-18) stormed through the middle order, epitomising Dorset's fighting spirit.

Towards the end of the day, bad light and thunder loitered near Wimborne to call an early halt to play.
