PORTLAND RT 181 (7pts) lost to HAMWORTHY RECREATION 185-5 (20pts) by five wickets

PORTLAND Red Triangle’s run of five straight wins came to a halt with a five-wicket loss to Hamworthy at Reforne.

Portland had been County Division One’s form team but Hamworthy have also come into a purple patch at the end of the season.

Triangle captain Matt Randell smashed 53 from 33 balls to give Portland a flying start.

However, once he departed a whopping 43 extras was the next top scorer.

Ollie Whisker’s 27 contained three sixes in his final innings for the club but 4-12 from Finlay Gordon helped Rec bowl Portland out for 181.

That total was never going to be enough against the firepower of Rec’s line-up.

Zach Basey (47) gave Hamworthy a good base before Matt Avery crunched 53 from 26 balls to take the visitors home with 9.4 overs remaining.

Speaking to Echosport, Randell said: “I wanted to give us a more positive start at the top of the order so I bumped myself up to bat at two.

“It came off nicely and I managed to get off the mark with a six over extra cover.

“When I got out, I thought we’d set ourselves up to go on and get big runs.

“But they bowled some tidy areas.

“Bowling-wise, we just weren’t good enough. Apart from Eddie (Moles) I don’t think anyone was good enough with ball in hand.”
