WILTSHIRE 200-7 (2pts) beat DORSET 194 (0pts) by three wickets

DORSET got off to a losing start in their NCCA Trophy campaign as Wiltshire claimed a three-wicket win at Marlborough College.

Luke Webb’s men were hoping to bounce back after their T20 finals day disappointment but again never really got going with the bat.

Felix Organ (49) and Oli Soames (31) looked assured in their unbroken stand of 64 for the first wicket but Soames’ dismissal sparked the loss of all ten wickets for 130 runs.

Hampshire star Organ appeared destined for a half-century until he became one of two victims for Michael Reynolds (2-46), the other being Webb (5).

Dorset were now 122-3 and the further loss of Sam Young (32), so prolific in the T20 format, put the visitors’ innings on a knife edge.

Unfortunately for them, the innings was dissected by Joe King (5-42) as Dorset struggled to make 200.

Harry Broderick’s 29 from 37 balls nearly carried them over that milestone, the Bashley all-rounder carving two sixes and two fours, until he became King’s final victim.

Dorset set Wiltshire 195 to win but found opener Jake Goodwin too hot to handle early on, the batter storming to 45.

Ben Fletcher (1-22) and Rob Pack (1-37) had taken early wickets to give Dorset impetus and Goodwin (45) followed to Broderick (2-22) after smacking eight fours and a six.

Goodwin had scored 45 of Wiltshire’s 55 runs up to that point and, when Broderick picked up the prize scalp of home skipper Ed Young (9), Dorset were firmly in the game.

However, they were pushed back by a fabulous 88-run stand for the fifth wicket between Oliver Meadows and Ben Draper.

Meadows was the more measured of the two, his 66-ball stay containing four boundaries and a six.

Draper reached 50 off just 53 balls having recorded two maximums and four fours but Meadows (43) was the first to go as debutant seamer Ollie Breckon claimed his first Dorset wicket.

He was quickly followed back to the pavilion by Draper (50) and Chris Aubrey (6) as Organ (2-49) picked up a quick brace to leave Wiltshire on 170-7.

With 25 still needed, Reynolds ensured there would be no nailbiting finish as he hammered 28 off 21 balls, including a six to win the game in style.

Dorset next host Buckinghamshire at Dorchester on Sunday, June 12 (11am).
