PORTLAND RT 167 (8pts) lost to HAMWORTHY RECREATION 434 (20pts) by 267 runs

PORTLAND Red Triangle were thumped by a gigantic 267-run margin as Hamworthy Recreation hit the biggest score in the Dorset League so far this season.

More than 600 runs were scored in this County Division One contest after Hamworthy went ballistic, hammering 434 all out with ten balls going unused.

Hamworthy are the first team to score more than 400 in the league in 2022 but made a shaky start after winning the toss and batting first.

Openers Alex Peel (8) and Jack Satterley (1) were bowled by Matt Barrett (1-61) and Jon Cameron (2-89) respectively, while Rich Samuel (4-68) castled Sam Martin (20).

At 83-3, Hamworthy then exploded into life as Elliott Dawson and Jacob Berry (59) crashed the ball to all parts, the latter finally bowled by Callan Laws (1-44) having smashed five fours and three sixes.

Dawson continued to a brutal 132 from 84 balls, his seismic knock including 21 boundaries and three sixes as Rec jumped to 304-4 before Cameron earned his second scalp.

There was no let up for Portland as Jacob Gordon increased the onslaught, crunching 16 fours and five sixes in his blistering 119 from 60 balls.

Nathan Peters also hit 34 from 21 deliveries before he became one of three late victims for Samuel.

Portland did not help themselves, either, conceding 51 extras as Hamworthy set them an unlikely 435 to win.

Triangle at least made a good attempt at the target, Barrett anchoring the innings with a well-made 70 including eight boundaries and a six.

However, he found little support other than Laws (21) and Samuel (26) as Berry claimed a fine 5-18 to blow away Portland’s tail and swiftly wrap up a commanding victory.
