STURMINSTER & HINTON 60 (5pts) lost to WEYMOUTH 185 (19pts) by 125 runs

WEYMOUTH turned in a sensational bowling display to skittle Sturminster & Hinton for just 60 in taking their eighth County Division Two win of the season.

Vice-captain Lloyd Beals was the Seasiders’ star performer, snaring 5-6 with the ball, scoring 27 with the bat and pouching a stunning catch.

Beals had earlier won the toss and chosen to bat but lost opener Tom England (11) to Henry Porter (3-30).

Beals steadied the ship to allow the ultra-attacking Manoj Somaratne the strike as he fired 30 from 34 balls before offering a catch off Gary Horne (1-16).

Jack Sapsworth (0) followed soon after and Stur made further inroads as Beals was pinned lbw by Laurence Moore (2-37), who removed both players.

Pete Sapsworth (5) and Tim Guyett (11) fell victim to Bertie Hebburn-Heath (2-25) but a superb mainstay innings from Marco Nott kept the Seasiders’ innings alive.

Nott accumulated a vital 46 not out, including seven fours, as Weymouth’s tail was swept away by Chris Job (2-33) and the returning Porter.

The Seasiders were also grateful for 38 extras in their total, although any thoughts that 185 all out may not have been enough were quickly banished by Beals.

Left-arm seamer Beals single-handedly reduced Stur to 10-5 with a devastating spell, four of his victims scoring ducks.

At one point, he had taken 5-3 from three overs and fellow opener Graham Puckett (1-24) also got in on the act as Harry Feltham (0) offered a return catch.

Austen Cornell lashed out with five boundaries but Stur then collapsed again from 59-6 to 60 all out.

Their swift demise came as Adam Hoyes (3-17) ousted Cornell and polished off the tail, along with Shafeek Urumancheri (1-11), the innings then wrapped up with Beals’ agile diving catch.

Speaking after the resounding victory, meaning Weymouth completed the double over Stur, Beals said: “I was disappointed not to get 200 runs and maximum batting points, but I can’t argue with the bowling.

“The fielding was intense, clean hands, I’m very happy. One week we’re very good and everyone’s the best player in the world and then one week we lose and everyone’s the worst.

“Marco batted very well and was huge in the middle order for us, he scores runs every week and he’s taken countless catches behind the stumps for us.”

On his second five-wicket haul for Weymouth, Beals said: “It felt good, I don’t really know what to say about my own performance – all I care about is winning.

“When the end of the season comes, I’ll look back on my performances through the season but we’ll get the season done, win as many games as we can and see if we can finish as high as we can.

“But I’m very happy to get five, I got some good batsmen out as well.”
