WEYMOUTH 301-9 (21pts) beat CORFE MULLEN 140 (8pts) by 161 runs

WEYMOUTH scored 300 for the first time this season as Corfe Mullen were thrashed by 161 runs in County Division Two at Redlands.

Corfe won the toss and bizarrely chose to field, leaving Weymouth’s Dom Webb (32) and Lloyd Beals (79) to pile on 114 for the first wicket, the latter smacking 15 fours.

The duo fell in quick succession but Tim Guyett (34) smashed five boundaries and two sixes alongside Jack Sapsworth (23) to continue the heavy scoring.

Harry Mitchell (27), Cube White (43) and Shafeek Urumancheri (13no) all provided late cameos as Weymouth reached an impressive 301-9 from 45 overs.

Mullen were in early trouble at 11-2 as Adam Hoyes (2-20) struck with the first ball before Weymouth’s slow bowlers turned the screw.

Only Michael Jordan (75), Zeeshan Haider (21) and Jacob Clarke (13) breached double figures as Urumancheri (4-34), Mitchell (3-57) and Jack Taylor (1-0) finished the visitors off for 140.

Speaking to Echosport, skipper Mitchell said: “Not the perfect result but the closest all season in terms of an all-round performance.

“Everyone contributed with runs, Lloyd and Dom were brilliant with a century partnership – it sets the whole game up. We had a stronger side out so that helped batting wise.

“Then Adam set the tone with the ball, taking a wicket with the first ball of the innings. I thought Shaf bowled well taking his four wickets, so all-round a good performance.”

Weymouth finish their season at Dorchester Seconds today (1.30pm).
