STALBRIDGE 149 (4pts) lost to PORTLAND RT 238-5 (20pts) by 89 runs

PORTLAND Red Triangle rounded off their County Division One season with a fine 89-run victory at Stalbridge.

Matt Randell’s men consequently finished fifth in the table, while Stalbridge escaped relegation in eighth after Compton House lost to Poole Seconds by 67 runs.

Portland won the toss, chose to bat at The Park and had to overcome an average start as Callan Laws (23) and Ray Emery (8) departed.

Triangle rallied from 39-2 as Randell and Ryan Price began to cut loose during what proved to be a match-winning 141-run stand for the third wicket.

Price scored 60 in 74 balls, including eight fours, while Randell bagged a destructive 105 from 100 deliveries with 17 boundaries.

Their efforts pushed Portland to 238-5, with Ed Pattle’s 3-45 the only crumb of comfort for Stalbridge.

In reply, the hosts lost regular wickets as Rich Samuel (2-19) and Bob Edwards (1-28) struck at the top of the order.

James Potts took a quickfire 3-34 to wipe out the middle order, including home captain Dominic Coleman (28).

But Steve Forshaw (40no) batted nicely with eight fours in a defiant unbeaten innings, with Andy Dike (21) also chipping in.

However, Jack Marsh (2-26), Randell (1-6) and Riley Marsh (1-36) ensured the hosts fell to defeat with 9.1 overs remaining.

Blandford ended up winning the title and provisional promotion to the Dorset Premier League after a sensational win at championship rivals Witchampton.

Witchampton held a 13-point lead going into the final day but Blandford thrashed the Witches by eight wickets and took 18 points to their four, winning the league by a single point.
