BROADSTONE 116-5 (19 pts) beat BERE REGIS 113 (3pts) by five wickets

BERE Regis slipped to a five-wicket defeat at Broadstone on the opening day of the Wessex Internet Dorset Premier League season.

Brian Keegan’s men lost the toss and were invited to bat first on a bowler-friendly wicket at the Delph.

Rich Cole (21) and Pete Russell (13) battled away at the top of the order but Broadstone’s seam attack, including Ben Jack (4-27), made significant inroads.

Troyanzo Maye (2-25) and Owen Parkin (2-26) were also among the wickets but Tim Goodhew’s 41 from 43 balls, featuring four boundaries and two sixes, helped Bere to 113 all out.

Bere’s seam attack claimed the early wicket of Frankie Gamble (11) as Rich Payne (1-17) pinned the opener lbw.

However, the hosts found runs far easier to come by as Jack (28), Simon Leadbeater (25) and Gareth Williams (26) all made good starts.

They were all dismissed by off-spinner Sam Goodhew (4-28), who also ousted dangerman Caleb Rowe (6) but it was too little too late as Broadstone stuttered over the line from 95-2.

Keegan told Echosport: “To be fair to Broadstone they had four pace bowlers, they all bowled extremely well on a track that was extremely suited to them.

“There was variable bounce and a few popped. You look at the match stats, we lost by five wickets and they knocked them off fairly comfortably because the wicket settled down.

“I think we did reasonably well to get to 113 all out, to be perfectly honest. It was just one of those wickets were the ball was doing a lot.”

Bere Seconds beat Broadstone Seconds by 96 runs in County Division Three.

The first and seconds play Wimborne at home and Poole Thirds away respectively on Saturday.
