DORSET have been knocked out of the NCCA T20 competition after Cornwall claimed two victories at rivals Devon.

Going into the final weekend with all eight of their matches played and holding a three-point cushion over the Cornish, Dorset needed either rain or a Devon victory to progress.

However, the pair of two-point hauls earned by Cornwall for beating Devon lifted them above Dorset to secure top spot in Group Two.

Cornwall progress to T20 Finals Day where they are joined by Berkshire, Staffordshire and Hertfordshire.

In Cornwall’s first rubber with Devon, Ben Beaumont had threatened to destroy Cornish hopes of progression with a thunderous 46 from 20 balls, hitting four boundaries and four maximums.

He helped Devon post 123 all out and the hosts looked a good bet to defend the total as Max Sturgess took 3-14 from four overs after Christian Purchase’s 34 from 27 balls.

However, Tommy Sturgess bludgeoned 11 from four balls to get Cornwall home with two balls to spare.

Cornwall’s second victory was far more straightforward as they dismissed Devon for 120, Lewis Goldsworthy bowling a maiden in amongst his 3-14.

It took just 12.1 overs for Cornwall to secure top spot as they hurtled along at ten-an-over, Purchase demolishing the home attack with 66 from 31 balls, comprised of six fours and six maximums.

Chris Gibson (49no) also weighed in as Cornwall finished in style with 121-2.
