CHALKE VALLEY 130-4 (20pts) beat PORTLAND RT 129 (4pts) by six wickets

PORTLAND Red Triangle came unstuck as Chalke Valley underlined their County Division One title credentials with an impressive six-wicket win at Bowerchalke.

Portland skipper Matt Randell came into the game cooling the “hype” around Chalke after their rapid rise through the divisions.

And Chalke backed up their T20 Cup final win over Triangle last season with a big margin of victory this time around.

Chalke’s bowling performance set up the triumph as only four Portland batters managed to reach double figures.

Of those, Randell (28) and Matt Barrett (23) were the pick with Izaak Russell (14) and Ryan Price (12) also contributing.

Triangle were gifted 32 extras in their total of 129 all out as Chalke duo Oliver (3-26) and Joe Weld (3-25) performed best with the ball after good early work from Oliver Senior (2-14).

Portland started well with the prize wicket of Chalke skipper Joe Weld (5), trapped lbw by Rich Samuel (1-21), but Valley's quality batting soon recovered the situation.

Heavy-hitting Glenn Willoughby (15) was removed by the economical Jon Cameron (1-16) but Guy Souch (34) continued the fluent scoring as Chalke breezed along at five per over.

Although Souch perished to off-spinner Jack Marsh (1-27), the baton was picked up by Senior (35) and Oliver Weld (23no) as Chalke coasted home with 22 overs to spare.
