PARLEY II 88 (4pts) lost to WEYMOUTH 289-9 (20pts) by 201 runs

WEYMOUTH stormed to a second successive County Division Two victory of the season, thrashing Parley Seconds by 201 runs.

Seasiders’ captain Lloyd Beals was undoubtedly star of the show, hitting a career-best 142 before snaring 4-23 with the ball.

Weymouth look in ominous form with the bat after piling on 287 against Marnhull last week.

And after winning the toss, Beals invited the opposition to field in warm conditions as the Seasiders put their opponents to the sword.

Beals did the majority of the scoring as Tom England (9) and Neil Walton (5) fell cheaply early on, going on to reach his 50 in just 51 balls.

Weymouth were 126-3 when Fletcher Tarry (14) was bowled by off-spinner Joe Booth (1-53) but new batter Dom Webb (44) then joined forces with Beals in a partnership that effectively won the game.

The duo shared a massive 122 runs for the fourth wicket, during which Beals put away a four to bring up his first hundred for Weymouth.

Beals had plenty of time remaining to go on and build an enormous century but was bowled on his 122nd ball when attempting to hoist Ben Dawson (4-67) over the ropes.

Beals scored fluently with 15 fours and a six in his innings but Weymouth found runs hard to come by at the death as they slumped from 270-4 to 274-9.

Late runs from brothers Jack (2no) and Pete Sapsworth (8no), plus a generous 48 extras, boosted Weymouth to 289-9 from 45 overs.

Faced with such a big target, Parley’s batters had licence to attack.

However, Beals picked apart their top order, taking 4-23 including a stunning leg-side stumping by England to remove the dangerous Sam Rook (0).

Corey Baker (1-25) claimed his maiden first-team wicket, finding the edge of Deyaan Mistry (10), and Weymouth rattled through the rest of the Parley innings.

All the work was done by teenage leg-spinner Fletcher Tarry, whose 5-21 included ending the defiant innings of big-hitting Ben Cridland (32) as Parley were skittled for 88.

Speaking to Echosport, Beals said: “I’ve been stewing all week with 91 last week, I was disappointed not to get a ton.

“But to back it up with 142 I’m absolutely ecstatic. I don’t think it’s out of order to say that nobody’s worked harder than me on their batting.

“I hope my partner is happy because of the time I spend away from home trying to improve. Here are the rewards, I suppose!”

Weymouth Seconds made it a second straight double maximum-point weekend for the Seasiders, beating Winton Seconds by six wickets in Division Five.
