DORSET all-rounder Felix Organ claimed career-best figures for Hampshire against Lancashire – including the prize wicket of England’s Phil Salt.

Organ’s achievement came during Hampshire’s County Championship Division One clash at Southport.

The 24-year-old, whose previous best haul was 5-25, utilised sharp turn on day two to claim 6-67.

Chief among his six wickets was England T20 World Cup winner Salt, who edged Organ to James Vince at slip having recorded a fine 103.

Organ then clean bowled Dane Vilas (6) with a devilish delivery that snuck through the Lancashire skipper’s defences, spitting out of the off-side rough.

While Organ was proving expensive at around five runs per over, he was always in the hunt for wickets and claimed another victim as Rob Jones (18) was snaffled by Mason Crane.

Hampshire then turned to the second new ball to dismiss New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell (68) and George Bell (45) as seamers Kyle Abbott (2-66) and Mohammed Abbas (1-98) struck.

However, there were still three wickets left to take and Organ hoovered them all up to record his best figures in Hampshire whites.

Left-hander Tom Hartley perished after a horrid swipe across the line, slicing Organ high into the off-side for an easy catch.

His fifth wicket came on the very next ball as Will Williams elected to go back to a full delivery and played down the wrong line, Organ rattling his off peg.

And Organ wrapped up the Lancashire innings for 374 in his next over, Jack Blatherwick (4) offering a catch as Organ claimed his maiden six-for.

It means Hampshire trail Lancashire by 232 runs after being dismissed for 142 in the first innings, Organ scoring just two.

Organ has now taken 40 first-class scalps in a fledgling career with the Hawks.

The former Canford School student, who played for England Under-19s in 2017, has scored 643 runs in 24 innings for Dorset across all three formats since 2019.

In Dorset colours he has also proven a useful off-spinner at National Counties level, taking a combined 25 wickets for 725 runs at an average of 29 in all three disciplines.
