CHARLTON DOWN 176-8 (9pts) lost to WEYMOUTH 236-8 (20pts) by 60 runs

WEYMOUTH are on the brink of promotion to County Division One after a 60-run victory at Charlton Down.

The Seasiders need just four more points from their final two games to go up.

Lloyd Beals’ men are level on 230 points with Corfe Mullen as joint-leaders but sit above them in the standings by virtue of a better head-to-head record.

Weymouth followed a familiar blueprint of batting first after winning the toss, amassing 236-8 from 45 overs.

Beals smashed 54 from 39 balls, while Mark Gregory (38), Kieron Womble (27) and Connor Wills (26) also weighed in.

Down dug in during their reply, despite Harry Mitchell claiming a tidy 3-24, but Lewis Harrington’s excellent unbeaten 48 frustrated them.

The hosts were always behind the run rate but prevented Weymouth from taking full batting points, ending on 176-8, Beals (2-31) with two late wickets.

Weymouth Seconds beat title rivals Poole Town Fourths by ten runs in Division Five, opening a 14-point lead.
