CAME Down Golf Club held a Texas Scramble to inaugurate the new captains for the 2018 season.

Members in teams of four, with a shotgun start, completed the 18 holes on a bitterly cold but bright morning.

Mark Osborne, Chris Skinner, Jonty Archibald and Mark Gugan, with a gross of 58.2, won the scramble.

After play, members gathered to witness the incoming club captain, Stuart Sibley, drive in using the traditional wooden-headed driver, which was presented by the members to the centenary captain, Ian Clark, in 1996.

Sibley was joined by ladies’ captain Sally Little, junior captain Archie Beasley and past seniors' captain Mick Hogben, who deputised for Bill Davidson.

Members who correctly guessed the driving distance of the Captains were Paul Gay, Alec Anderson & Tony Chambers.

Results: 1. Mark Osborne, Chris Skinner, Jonty Archibald & Mark Gugan (58.2); 2. Jim Stewart, Steve White, Mike Howard & Tom Lane (58.3); 3. Barry McSherry, Paul Gay, Rod Smallwood and Tony Chambers (59.8).
